The Skill India Mission aims to equip Indian youth with industry-relevant skill training so they can secure better livelihoods. Through this initiative, the Government of India provides skill development opportunities to young people with limited formal education, including those who have dropped out after Class 10 or 12.
Launched on 15 July 2015, on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Skill India Mission is one of the government’s flagship initiatives. Its objective is to develop the skills of India’s youth and connect them with suitable employment opportunities. The mission focuses on making unemployed youth job-ready by providing practical, demand-driven training.
The Skill India Mission brings together four key initiatives: the National Skill Development Mission, the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), and the Skill Loan Scheme. The mission is implemented under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, with the goal of promoting employability, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth.
